The International Multilingual Research Journal (IMRJ) invites scholarly contributions with strong interdisciplinary perspectives to understand and promote bi/multilingualism, bi/multi-literacy, and linguistic democracy. The journal's focus is on these topics as related to languages other than English as well as dialectal variations of English. It has three thematic emphases: The intersection of language and culture, the dialectics of the local and global, and comparative models within and across contexts. IMRJ is committed to promoting equity, access, and social justice in education, and to offering accessible research and policy analyses to better inform scholars, educators, students, and policy makers IMRJ is particularly interested in scholarship grounded in interdisciplinary frameworks that offer insights from linguistics, applied linguistics, education, globalization and immigration studies, cultural psychology, linguistic and psychological anthropology, sociolinguistics, literacy studies, post-colonial studies, critical race theory, and critical theory and pedagogy. It seeks theoretical and empirical scholarship with implications for research, policy, and practice. Submissions of research articles based on quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods are encouraged. The journal includes book reviews and two occasional sections: Perspectives and Research Notes. Perspectives allows for informed debate and exchanges on current issues and hot topics related to bi/multilingualism, bi/multi-literacy, and linguistic democracy from research, practice, and policy perspectives. Interpreting serves as a medium for research and debate on all aspects of interpreting, in its various modes, modalities (spoken and signed) and settings (conferences, media, courtroom, healthcare and others). Striving to promote our understanding of the socio-cultural, cognitive and linguistic dimensions of interpreting as an activity and process, the journal covers theoretical and methodological concerns, explores the history and professional ecology of interpreting and its role in society, and addresses current issues in professional practice and training. Interpreting encourages cross-disciplinary inquiry from such fields as anthropology, cognitive science, cultural studies, discourse analysis, language planning, linguistics, neurolinguistics, psychology and sociology, as well as translation studies. Italian Studies was founded in 1937 as the journal of the Society for Italian Studies (SIS), the principal professional association of teachers of Italian and Italian studies in Higher Education in the UK and Ireland, whose aim is 'to advance public education by furthering the study of Italy, Italian language, literature, thought, history, society, and arts in the United Kingdom and Ireland' (www.sis.ac.uk). Advances in the History of Rhetoric (AHR), the annual research publication of the American Society for the History of Rhetoric, welcomes contributions from scholars who take a historical approach to the study of rhetoric. In particular, AHR publishes scholarship on all historical aspects of rhetoric, in all historical periods, and with reference to all intellectual, national, and cultural communities. The Journal of African Cultural Studies is an international journal providing a forum for perceptions of African culture from inside and outside Africa, with a special commitment to African scholarship. It focuses on dimensions of African culture including African literatures both oral and written, performance arts, visual arts, music, the role of the media, the relationship between culture and power, as well as issues within such fields as popular culture in Africa, sociolinguistic topics of cultural interest, and culture and gender. It has evolved from the journal African Languages and Cultures, founded in 1988 in the Department of the Languages and Cultures of Africa at the School of Oriental and African Studies, London. Although the journal no longer carries articles on African languages that are primarily linguistic in character, it remains strongly interested in the languages of Africa as channels for the expression of their culture. The Journal of Applied Communication Research publishes original scholarship that addresses or challenges the relation between theory and practice in understanding communication in applied contexts. JACR aims primarily to contribute to how people practice communication across multiple contexts. All theoretical and methodological approaches are welcome, as are all contextual areas. Of utmost importance is that an applied communication problem or issue is the motivation for the research. Submissions should be based securely in existing understandings of communication processes, informed by relevant theory, and should substantively advance our understanding of communication in practical settings. Of particular interest are studies that focus on contemporary social issues. Authors are encouraged to clearly and explicitly identify and describe the communication problem or issue early in the manuscript. Also welcome are reviews of recently published books, reports, or monographs relevant to applied communication and reviews of communication interventions or resources (particularly software and internet-based resources). Reviews should be 1,000-1,500 words in length.
