The Journal of the History of Collections is dedicated to providing the clearest insight into all aspects of collecting activity. For centuries collecting has been the pursuit of princes and apothecaries, scholars and amatuers alike. Only recently, however, has the study of collections and their collectors become the subject of great multidisciplinary interest. The range of the Journal of the History of Collections embraces the contents of collections, the processes which initiated their formation, and the circumstances of the collectors themselves. As well as publishing original papers, the Journal includes listings of forthcoming events, conferences, and reviews of relevant publications and exhibitions, making it the most comprehensive source available on a subject of increasing interest and study.
Museums & Social Issues focuses on the interaction between compelling social issues and the way that museums respond to, influence, or become engaged with them. The journal responds to dynamic and contemporary topics such as race, immigration, health care, democratic process, and representation by featuring theoretical, philosophical, and practical pieces that discuss museums in relation to a range of contemporary issues. Submissions may include a history of the issue, critical questions, philosophical reflections, theoretical positions, examples of exhibits, programs or initiatives that have addressed issue, and a review or bibliography of pertinent books, websites, exhibits and other resources.

Visitor Studies is a bi-annual, peer-reviewed journal that publishes high-quality articles, focusing on visitor research, visitor studies, evaluation studies, and research methodologies. The Journal also covers subjects related to museums and out-of-school learning environments, such as zoos, nature centers, visitor centers, historic sites, parks and other informal learning settings. A primary goal for Visitor Studies is to be an accessible source of authoritative information within the visitor studies field that provides both theoretical and practical insights of relevance to practitioners and scholars. As a secondary goal, Visitor Studies aims to develop its reputation as an international publication.Contributors to the Journal share their research procedures and findings with practitioners and other researchers. Original and review articles present a forum for new data and provide practical and useful conclusions. Roberts 'Second Hand Images': On Art's Surrogate Means and Media - Part I: The Art Press and Photography Visual Resources: An International Journal of Documentation is devoted to the study of images and their uses. While images of architecture and works of art constitute its main focus, it also includes other subjects and contexts in a wide range of formats. Its scope delves into the past and looks toward the future, revealing how images have influenced the perception of art and how the interpretation of images conditions and enhances academic disciplines such as archaeology, history, and particularly art and architectural history. Visual Resources explores how visual language is structured and visual meaning communicated and also illustrates how picture collections are acquired, organized, indexed, and preserved. VR examines early attempts to document the visual, reports on the state of visual resources, assesses the effect of electronic technology on current and future uses, and provides a platform for reporting innovative ways to organize and access visual information - while aiming to increase the recognition and appreciation of visual documentation. Over the years, VR has published articles about verbal descriptions of art and architecture; copies, casts, and facsimiles; drawings, paintings, and prints; photography; library, archive, and museum collections; iconography; and computers and electronic imagery - and how these have functioned as documents of art and culture. Published since 1964, Winterthur Portfolio is an interdisciplinary journal committed to fostering knowledge of the American past by publishing articles on the arts in America and the historical context within which they developed. Arts is used in its broadest sense to include all the products of human ingenuity that satisfy functional, aesthetic, or symbolic needs. Preference is given to articles that are analytical rather than descriptive and to studies that integrate artifacts into their cultural framework.To encourage the application of new methods of investigation or analysis as well as new interpretations, contributions are invited from such diverse fields as art history, architectural history, decorative arts, material culture, American studies, literature, folk studies, cultural geography, ethnology, anthropology, archaeology, and social, economic, technological, and intellectual history. The range of acceptable subjects is suggested by, but not limited to, the following: artists and artisans, architecture and landscape design, technology and trade, fashion and folkways, style and taste, customs and habits, manners and rituals-all relating to how people make and use objects to create or sustain environments.
