View a list of the latest free articles available from International Journal of Sport Policy and Politics The International Journal of Sport Policy and Politics has three inter-related aims: to stimulate scholarly debate about the role, significance and impact of public policy on sport to encourage critical analysis of sport policy and the sport policy process to publish articles that are theoretically rigorous and of interest to both scholars and practitioners Editorial StatementThe International Journal of Sport Policy and Politics aims to publish articles that address all aspects of sport policy irrespective of academic discipline. Articles that adopt a multi-disciplinary, inter-disciplinary or comparative approach are particularly welcome. The Editorial Board is especially keen to encourage the submission of articles that cover one or more of the following five broad themes: theoretical contributions to analyses of the policy process for sport which draw upon and develop current macro and meso level theories and analytic frameworks the development of robust, evidence-based empirical research on the impact of sport policy the role and influence of national and sub-national government in relation to sport policy. At the national/federal government level this would include both the utilisation of sport to achieve a range of non-sport objectives such as those related to economic, social, cultural and diplomatic objectives as well as policy focused more sharply on sport outcomes such as improved elite performance and increased participation. At sub-national/local level this theme would include the use of sport to help fulfil community social and economic objectives as well as the role of regional and local government in providing sport opportunities. the significance of government, for example as regulator, resource provider and competitor, for the operation of commercial, semi-commercial, and not-for-profit/voluntary clubs, leagues and national sports organisations/national governing bodies, and the development activities of these organisations. the role of transnational government organisations, such as the EU, the World Anti-Doping Agency, UNESCO, Council of Europe, and NGOs, such as the International Olympic Committee and the major international federations, in relation, for example, to the regulation and development of sport. "Sport policy is assuming greater importance at local, regional, national and international levels. There is increasing recognition of the social and economic benefits of sport and policies and government initiatives to exploit these benefits are being implemented and monitored. Sports events are increasingly being supported by governments at local, regional and national levels. Other government policies and laws impact directly on sport, such as child protection, the education curriculum, and government expenditure. The time is therefore right for the International Journal of Sport Policy and Politics - which will help in the process of exploring the way sport policy is constructed and delivered, and its effects on relevant communities."Peter Taylor, Sheffield Hallam University, UK8220;This is a much needed journal. The knowledge produced in the sports sciences seldom reaches decision-makers in forms they can use to identify issues, consider a full range of policy alternatives, and assess current and past policies.International Journal of Sport Policy and Politics provides a forum for presenting issues and research-based discussions that will lead to more fully and critically informed policy decisions at all levels of sport organization.8221;Jay Coakley, University of Colorado, USADisclaimerTaylor & Francis makes every effort to ensure the accuracy of all the information (the "Content") contained in its publications. The International Journal of Strategic Communication is part of an international effort to integrate various communication disciplines such as marketing and managerial communication, public relations, political and health communication, social marketing/information campaigns, technical communication, and even international relations and public diplomacy into a coherent body of knowledge. Formal communication practice takes place in different formats and contexts in virtually every society on the globe. For the past 30 years or so there have been increasing calls for integrating these various practices into a coherent body of knowledge. These specialties are all involved in the intentional use of communications to help organizations advance their missions and attain organizational goals. Similar strategies, theories and concepts are used across these contexts, but often without making logical connections or cross- references from other disciplines. Cross referencing theories from different disciplines might enlighten researchers on this single notion: how communicators who act on behalf of another person or body can use this knowledge to improve practice and understand their impact on society. Thus, we invite scholars who study communication practice in every sector of society --from trade and industry to politics, nonprofits, activist groups, and even celebrities in the sports and entertainment industries -- to help us better define this field of study. Already the first issues of IJSC have published research from Africa, Australia, various European countries, and the United States. Upcoming issues include articles from Asia and the Far East. Topics and methodologies run the gamut from critical and theoretical essays to articles using qualitative and quantitative methodologies. We particularly encourage diversity in type of article and methodology because these differ from country to country, and we do not wish to create a particular hegemonic approach to the study of this new field. We often work with authors to improve their articles if we believe the content is relevant and new and brings insight from a part of the globe that has been neglected in the past. Our truly international editorial board helps us in this regard. If you are not sure whether your research fits into the journal, or what this study entails, please read the article Defining Strategic Communication in very first issue of the journal, which was published in 2007. This is the inaugural article to the journal written by five scholars from different parts of the globe and who set out to provide guidelines for the study of strategic communication. Planning, at urban, regional, national and international levels, faces new challenges, notably those related to the growth of globalisation as both an objective socio-economic process and a shift in policy-maker perceptions and modes of analysis. International Planning Studies (IPS) addresses these issues by publishing quality research in a variety of specific fields and from a range of theoretical and normative perspectives, which helps improve understanding of the actual and potential role of planning and planners in this context. Specific policy areas covered include: * urban design * economic development * environmental policy * spatial planning * housing * transport * social inclusion. IPS fills a gap between the more specialist theoretical and empirical journals in planning and urban-regional studies. In so doing it throws new light on the influences on, and effects of, the evolution of planning around the world. The editor particularly welcomes contributions addressing the relationships between the ideas informing planning theory, practice and process, and the outcomes of planning, past and present Contributors are invited to submit articles based on original empirical or theoretical work, or assessments or critiques of existing studies, that offer new perspectives, critical insights, or new data to stimulate and inform debate over the future development of planning.
