Journal Guide

The aim of the journal is to report novel scientific discoveries related to all biological processes in plants using integrative genetic, chemical, cell and molecular biological approaches to understand plants at micro- and macro-scale. Articles submitted to JIPB should fit in one of the following six themes: 1) Cell & Developmental Biology; 2) Metabolic Biology & Biochemistry; 3) Signal Transduction & Stress Response; 4) Systems Biology & Molecular Physiology; 5) Sexual Reproduction; and 6) Molecular Evolution & Ecology. Our primary focus is on providing the answers to significant plant biological questions and on the technologies essential for such studies. Preliminary observations, purely descriptive studies, tissue culture and transformation, and reporting on single plant-derived chemicals fall beyond the scope of the journal.

The Journal of Phycology was founded in 1965 by the Phycological Society of America. The Journal is a leading international journal and publishes research from all over the world. All aspects of basic and applied research on algae are included to provide a common medium for the ecologist, physiologist, cell biologist, molecular biologist, morphologist, oceanographer, acquaculturist, systematist, geneticist, and biochemist. The Journal also welcomes research that emphasizes algal interactions with other organisms and the roles of algae as components of natural ecosystems. Papers are accepted on the basis of their original and meritorious data and ideas; our focus is on research articles but mini-reviews and reviews are solicited on especially important and timely subjects. Comments, which are reviewed, may describe methods or equipment, discuss papers previously published in the Journal, or discuss other topics of interest to our readership. Other features include Algae Highlights, which draws attention to some of the important papers being published in each issue of the Journal or elsewhere, and Book Reviews. The Luigi Provasoli Award, named in honor of the founding Editor of the Journal, is presented annually by the Editorial Board to the authors who in the Board's judgment have published the best research paper in the previous year in the Journal.

This international journal publishes original scientific articles, short communications and reviews on all aspects of phytopathology on the population, organism, physiological, biochemical and molecular genetic level. The scope is on plant diseases induced by microbial pathogens, viruses and nematodes. Papers should address phytopathological and epidemiological aspects of plant diseases with regard to their management and control. The journal is eminently suitable for university teachers, researchers in universities, research institutes, and industry as well as for postgraduate and advanced students. Journal of Plant Biochemistry and Biotechnology is an official organ of the Society for Plant Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Division of Biochemistry, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi 110012, India, and is published four times in a year (January/April/July/October), with the main  aim/objective of advancing research in Plant Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbial Genetic, Genomics, Bioinformatics and Biotechnology.

The Journal of Plant Biology, an official publication of the Korean Society of Plant Biologists, is an international journal devoted to basic researches in biochemistry, cellular biology, development, ecology, genetics, molecular biology, physiology, and systematics of plants.The Journal publishes original articles, reviews and brief communications detailing significant research contributions to plant science.Celebrating its 50th year of publication in 2007, the Journal of Plant Biology first appeared in 1958, and was published until 1994 under the title Korean Journal of Botany.

The Journal of Plant Growth Regulation is an international journal publishing original articles on all aspects of plant growth and development. Published manuscripts report question-based research using hormonal, physiological, environmental, genetical, biophysical, developmental or molecular approaches to the study of plant growth regulation. The journal offers reviews on highly relevant areas in plant growth and development, including interdisciplinary studies with an emphasis on plant growth and plant pathology or abiotic stress. Also included are meeting notes, brief articles, novel techniques and thematic issues with special guest editors.

Journal of Plant Interactions aims to represent a common platform for those scientists interested in publishing and reading research articles in the field of plant interactions and will cover most plant interactions with the surrounding environment. Journal of Plant Interactions covers the subject areas of:Plant-Plant InteractionThis area deals with interaction between plants, considering all biochemical, physiological and molecular aspects.Plant-Microorganism InteractionThis area is surely one of the widest and covers three fundamental sub-areas: Plant-Fungi; Plant-Bacteria and Plant-Virus Interactions. Responses to and interactions of plants with micro-organisms are the basics for understanding community dynamics and crop productivity, as well as the key to discovering new resistance genes for pest and disease attacks.Plant-Insect InteractionThe presence of plants after millions of years of herbivore predation is the demonstration that plants have the ability to deter herbivore feeding, but the presence of herbivore after ages of plant toxin biosynthesis is the living evidence that insect herbivores are able to counteract plant poisons. This area deals with all aspects of interaction: from pest attack to plant attraction; from tritrophic interaction to biological control.Plant-Animal InteractionBesides insects, monogastric and polygastric herbivores interact with plants with grazing activity. This area is intended for all studies concerning the effect of grazing on plant population and dynamics.Plant-Environment InteractionThis area is divided into two general sections: 'pen environment'and 'losed environment' The first section covers all aspects of plants'interaction with abiotic stresses present in the natural environments (including atmospheric phenomena, light, temperature, pollution, etc.). The aim of the second section is to collect research reports on artificial environments where plants live (including greenhouses, growth chambers, etc.) both on Earth and in space applications. Remote sensing and biosensing will also be covered under this area.Plant-Soil Interaction (including Plant-Water Interaction)This area deals with nutrition, drought, flooding, restoration, phytoremediation, bioremediation, applied ecology, and all aspects where plants interact with the soil.The Journal will be of significance to all plant biologists, plant physiologists, ecologists, mycologists, microbiologists, agronomists, landscape architects, environmental engineers, entomologists, students and all researchers interested in biological struggle and sustainable use of natural resources.CALL FOR PAPERSAs Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Plant Interactions, Massimo Maffei welcomes submissions from authors. The Journal prefers to publish only those manuscripts that present fundamental advances of wide interest to the plant-interaction biology community. Preference will be given to manuscripts presenting evidence that answers important questions with a high degree of certainty and clarity. Manuscripts that only describe the effect of plant interactions although important and interesting from a phenomenological point of view generally do not meet the standards insisted on by most reviewers without providing a biological meaning and interpretation. Similarly, quality manuscripts that describe a new methodology, but which do not also provide substantial new insight into the biology of plant interactions may not meet reviewers' expectations or the journal's scope. Furthermore, manuscripts that are not accompanied by a sound statistical analysis of data to support results will not be taken into consideration.All submissions will be independently refereed by editorial board members and by external referees chosen on an international basis. The Journal of Plant Pathology (JPP) is the international journal of the Italian Phytopathological Society (S.I.Pa.V), covering fundamental and applied aspects of plant pathology. JPPY will publish original contribution written in English, in the form of full-lenght papers, short communication, disease notes, and review articles on mycology, bacteriology, virology, phytoplasmatology, physiological plant pathology, plant-parasite interactions, post-harvest diseases, non infectious diseases, and plant protection. All contributions will be peer reviewed under the supervision of an international Editorial Board.

Founded in 1909, with roots tracing back to 1818, the Journal of Plant Physiology(JPP) published landmark papers in plant physiology and is one of the world's oldest international journals in the botanical sciences.Today's modern concept of JPP welcomes submissions in biochemistry, molecular biology, physiology and functional biotechnology of plants.While a "new" or "agriculturally important" species alone is not an acceptable rationale for this journal, submission of papers exploring the diversity of species beyond current models, such as Arabidopsis, and bridging basic research with applied aspects is encouraged. Experiments should be carried out under controlled environmental conditions.Descriptive manuscripts, confirming known facts in just another species without contributing to a better understanding of the biological mechanisms involved, will normally be returned without review.

Journal of Soil Science and Plant Nutritionis a peer reviewed journal that publishes original research findings in all areas related to soil science, plant nutrition, agriculture and environmental science. For publication it accepts original research articles, technical notes, short communication and reviews (both voluntary and by invitation), on all aspects indicated by the Journal title. Contributions to soil science cover physics, chemistry, biology, microbiology, mineralogy, ecology, pedology, classification and amelioration. Contributions related to plant nutrition and agriculture include plant production, physiology and metabolism of plants, plant ecology, diversity and sustainability of agricultural systems, organic and inorganic fertilization in relation to their impact on yields, quality of plants and ecological systems and agroecosystems studies. Contributions related to soil degradation, environmental pollution and nature conservation and environmental protection are also included in the scope of the Journal. 

Journal of Systematics and Evolution (JSE, since 2008; formerly Acta Phytotaxonomica Sinica) is a plant-based international journal newly dedicated to the description and understanding of the biological diversity. It covers: description of new taxa, monographic revision, phylogenetics, molecular evolution and genome evolution, evolutionary developmental biology, evolutionary ecology, population biology, conservation biology, biogeography, paleobiology, evolutionary theories, and related subjects.

This Journal is the official publication of the Indian Academy of Wood Science. It publishes on all aspects related to wood, cellulose and their products such as logging, saw milling, wood working, plywood, fibre boards, particle boards, improved and composite woods, cellulose and cellulose-based sciences and industries and allied fields generally classified as 'Wood Science'. It also includes biological sciences related to wood and wood products. The Journal aims to cover research on all aspects of Wood Science and allied fields relating to resource utilization of wood. In essence it relates to all aspects of utilization including processing, sales and marketing of wood, its products and other lignocellulosic materials both from forestry and agricultural origin. Further, the Journal aims to help and promote rational and scientific utilization of raw materials, avoiding of wastage in raw materials, development of standard products and standard techniques, evolution of uniform standardized processing methods, quality control methods, inspection methods and similar other scientific methods, applicable to the industries connected with wood and cellulose. 

The Journal of Vegetation Science publishes papers on all aspects of vegetation science, with particular emphasis on papers that develop new concepts or methods, test theory, identify general patterns, or that are otherwise likely to interest a broad readership. Papers may focus on any aspect of vegetation science, e.g. community structure (including community assembly and plant functional types), biodiversity (including species richness and composition), spatial patterns (including plant geography and landscape ecology), temporal changes (including demography, community dynamics and palaeoecology) and processes (including ecophysiology), provided the focus is on increasing our understanding of plant communities. The Journal publishes papers on the ecology of a single species only if it plays a key role in structuring plant communities.
