Jazz Perspectives

ISSN: 1749-4060eISSN: 1749-4079
JUFO Level 1

As a refereed academic journal with an international editorial board of renowned jazz scholars, Jazz Perspectives provides a broad forum for promoting cross-disciplinary scholarly dialogue across the academic jazz community. Our mission is to stimulate the international study and appreciation of the rich legacy of jazz and its many musical and cultural tangents, both past and present. The journal aims to bridge the jazz-as-music and jazz-as-culture divide of contemporary jazz studies, as well as to promote broader international perspectives on the jazz tradition and its legacy. We likewise welcome the submission of first-rate scholarship from outside the academy. The pages of the journal are devoted to all aspects of - and all approaches to - jazz scholarship. The journal is an open platform for historical inquiry, music analysis, and cultural studies. The journal furthermore includes reviews and essays on significant recent literature and new recordings and media. Peer Review Policy All research articles published in this journal have undergone rigorous peer review, based on initial editorial board screening and refereeing by at least two anonymous external referees. Journal of African Cultural Studies

ISSN: 1369-6815eISSN: 1469-9346

The Journal of African Cultural Studies is an international journal providing a forum for perceptions of African culture from inside and outside Africa, with a special commitment to African scholarship. It focuses on dimensions of African culture including African literatures both oral and written, performance arts, visual arts, music, the role of the media, the relationship between culture and power, as well as issues within such fields as popular culture in Africa, sociolinguistic topics of cultural interest, and culture and gender. It has evolved from the journal African Languages and Cultures, founded in 1988 in the Department of the Languages and Cultures of Africa at the School of Oriental and African Studies, London. Although the journal no longer carries articles on African languages that are primarily linguistic in character, it remains strongly interested in the languages of Africa as channels for the expression of their culture. All views expressed are those of the authors and are not necessarily those of the editors. Peer Review Statement All research articles in this journal have undergone rigorous peer review, with initial editor screening and anonymized refereeing. Journal of Music Theory

ISSN: 0022-2909eISSN: 1941-7497
JUFO Level 2

Founded by David Kraehenbuehl at Yale University in 1957, the Journal of Music Theory is the oldest music-theory journal now published in the United States. Originally a publication of the Yale School of Music, where it was officially housed for many years, JMT has always been edited by scholars associated with Yale's Department of Music, a relationship formalized in the last decade with JMT's move to the department. As the journal enters its second half century, the editors look forward to maintaining a tradition of publishing the best peer-reviewed research in the discipline. The Journal of Music Theory fosters conceptual and technical innovations in abstract, systematic musical thought and cultivates the historical study of musical concepts and compositional techniques. The journal publishes research with important and broad applications in the analysis of music and the history of music theory as well as theoretical or metatheoretical work that engages and stimulates ongoing discourse in the field. While remaining true to its original formalist outlook, the journal also addresses the influences of philosophy, mathematics, computer science, cognitive sciences, and anthropology on music theory. .

The Journal of New Music Research (JNMR), founded in 1972 under the title Interface, publishes material which increases our understanding of music and musical processes by systematic, scientific and technological means. This is by nature an interdisciplinary endeavour; research published in the journal draws on musicology (including music theory), philosophy, psychology, acoustics, computer science, engineering, and other disciplines. No bounds are placed on the music or musical behaviours at issue. Popular music, music of diverse cultures and the canon of western classical music are all within the Journal's scope. Articles deal with theory, analysis, composition, performance, uses of music, instruments and other music technologies. Material published in the Journal is innovative, scientifically rigorous and musically relevant. Journal of Popular Music Studies

ISSN: 1524-2226eISSN: 1533-1598
JUFO Level 2

Journal of Popular Music Studies features work on popular music in its historical, cultural, aesthetic, and political registers. Its purview encompasses all genres of music that have been dubbed popular. The journal is also concerned with such issues as popular music's intersections with other arts, its relationships with old and new media, and its status as a field of research and critical writing. We welcome and encourage unconventional approaches (i.e. different from the standard scholarly essay) to these areas of inquiry. Each number of JPMS features book reviews, as well as occasional reviews of performances and recordings, and we regularly publish special issues co-ordinated by a guest editor or editors. We are currently inviting new submissions for future issues. Email submissions@thejpms.net for queries, and to submit manuscripts.
