Journal Guide

The journal publishes original research papers in the field of geodesy and geophysics under headings: aeronomy and space physics, electromagnetic studies, geodesy and gravimetry, geodynamics, geomathematics, rock physics, seismology, solid earth physics, history. Papers dealing with problems of the Carpathian region and its surroundings are preferred. Similarly, papers on topics traditionally covered by Hungarian geodesists and geophysicists (e.g. robust estimations, geoid, EM properties of the Earth’s crust, geomagnetic pulsations and seismological risk) are especially welcome.

Advances in Meteorology is a peer-reviewed, open access journal that publishes original research articles as well as review articles in all areas of meteorology.

American Mineralogist, the journal of the Mineralogical Society of America (MSA), publishes the results of original scientific research in the general fields of mineralogy, crystallography, geochemistry, and petrology. Specific areas of coverage include, but are not restricted to, igneous and metamorphic petrology, experimental mineralogy and petrology, crystal chemistry and crystal-structure determinations, mineral spectroscopy, mineral physics, isotope geochemistry, major and trace element geochemistry, planetary material science, clay minerals, mineral surface science, geochemistry of mineral-fluid systems, environmental mineralogy, biomineralization, geomicrobiology, new minerals and mineral occurrences, petrography and petrogenesis, ore deposits, and mineralogical apparatus and techniques.

Applied Geophysics was started in 2004 by the Chinese Geophysical Society, and today is a unique, comprehensive English language periodical, distributed in China and abroad. Applied Geophysics creates an academic realm for scientific researchers, engineers, and professors in geophysics, where they can publish and exchange their experiences in scientific research, production results, and production management, aiming to reflect and represent achievements in the Chinese applied geophysics sector, and also to publish the research and practices of geophysicists from around the world. The journal is designed to promote rapid communication and exchange of ideas between Chinese and world-wide geophysicists. The publication covers the applications of geoscience, geophysics, and related disciplines in the fields of energy, resources, environment, disaster, engineering, information, military, and surveying.

Aquatic Geochemistry provides a medium for the publication of original studies broadly relating to the geochemistry of natural waters and their interactions with rocks and minerals under relatively near Earth-surface conditions. Coverage includes theoretical, experimental, and modeling papers dealing with this subject area, as well as papers presenting observations of natural systems that stress major processes. The journal also presents `letter'-type papers for rapid publication and a limited number of review-type papers on topics of particularly broad interest or current major controversy.

Astronomy and Geophysics (A&G) seeks to publish concise reviews of recent scientific progress, written by active researchers and those involved in the development of the field. We are looking for overviews of cutting-edge research that enable astronomers and geophysicists to keep up with developments in different fields. Potential authors should contact the Editor (s.bowler@leeds.ac.uk). We also seek short news items, topical and relevant to the interests of professional astronomers and geophysicists, letters on matters of interest to the community, and brief reports from meetings. Obituaries of distinguished fellows of the RAS and others are published in A&G; the RAS Council selects subjects and authors.

Bulletin of Earthquake Engineering presents original, peer-reviewed papers on research related to the broad spectrum of earthquake engineering. The journal offers a forum for presentation and discussion of such matters as European damaging earthquakes, new developments in earthquake regulations, and national policies applied after major seismic events, including strengthening of existing buildings.Coverage includes seismic hazard studies and methods for mitigation of risk; earthquake source mechanism and strong motion characterization and their use for engineering applications; geological and geotechnical site conditions under earthquake excitations; cyclic behavior of soils; analysis and design of earth structures and foundations under seismic conditions; zonation and microzonation methodologies; earthquake scenarios and vulnerability assessments; earthquake codes and improvements, and much more. This is the Official Publication of the European Association for Earthquake Engineering.

The Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America (ISSN 0037-1106) is the premier journal of advanced research in earthquake seismology and related disciplines. It first appeared in 1911 and was issued on a quarterly basis until 1963. Since 1963, it has appeared bimonthly (in February, April, June, August, October, and December). Each issue is composed of scientific papers on the various aspects of seismology, including investigation of specific earthquakes, theoretical and observational studies of seismic waves, inverse methods for determining the structure of the Earth or the dynamics of the earthquake source, seismometry, earthquake hazard and risk estimation, seismotectonics, and earthquake engineering. In addition to full-length papers, each issue contains a section of "Short Notes" for comments on previously published items or for brief, topical contributions.

Contributions to Mineralogy and Petrology is an international journal that accepts high quality research papers in the fields of igneous and metamorphic petrology, geochemistry and mineralogy. Topics of interest include: major element, trace element and isotope geochemistry, geochronology, experimental petrology, igneous and metamorphic petrology, mineralogy, major and trace element mineral chemistry and thermodynamic modeling of petrologic and geochemical processes. Manuscripts should advance our understanding of the fundamental processes that lead to the formation and evolution of the Earth’s crust, mantle and core. Papers should use petrologic, geochemical and mineralogical evidence recorded in rocks and minerals to explore these processes and their implications for the development of the Earth’s crust, mantle and core through time.

Earth and Planetary Science Letters (EPSL) is the journal for researchers and practitioners from the broad Earth and planetary sciences community. It publishes concise, highly cited articles ("Letters") focusing on physical, chemical and mechanical processes as well as general properties of the Earth and planets - from their deep interiors to their atmospheres. Extensive data sets are included as electronic supplements and contribute to the short publication times. Earthquake Spectra, the professional journal of the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI), is published quarterly in both printed and online editions in February, May, August, and November. The printed edition is sent to EERI members as part of their membership benefits. The online edition is available free to EERI members who register for the online access. EERI established Earthquake Spectra with the purpose of improving the practice of earthquake hazards mitigation, preparedness, and recovery. It is intended to serve the informational needs of the diverse professionals engaged in earthquake loss reduction: civil, geotechnical, mechanical, and structural engineers; geologists, seismologists, and other earth scientists; architects and city planners; public officials; social scientists; and researchers in all these disciplines. Spectra serves as the publication of record for the development of earthquake engineering practice, earthquake codes and regulations, earthquake public policy, and earthquake investigation reports. Manuscripts published in Earthquake Spectra are peer reviewed. The manuscript submission and peer review process is handled electronically, with authors, journal staff, the editorial board, and reviewers all participating.
