Computational mechanics is an integral and major subject of research in many fields of science and engineering, design and manufacturing. Major established industries such as the automobile, aerospace, atmospheric sciences, chemical, pharmaceutical, petroleum, electronics and communications, as well as emerging industries such as biotechnology, nanotechnology, and information technology rely on computational mechanics-based capabilities to model and numerically simulate complex systems for the analysis, design, and manufacturing of high-technology products. Rapid advances in computer architecture, hardware, software technology and tools, and numerical and non-numerical algorithms, are making significant contributions to the development of computational models and methods to model materials and analyze and design complex engineering systems.The main aim of International Journal for Computational Methods in Engineering Science & Mechanics (CMES) is to provide a unique interdisciplinary forum to publish papers dealing with mathematical models and computational methods and algorithms for the numerical simulation of natural processes arising in applied science and mechanics. Special emphasis will be placed on both upstream and applied research and on the transfer of technology to the industry in the areas of fluid mechanics, heat transfer, solid and structural mechanics in the disciplines of aerospace, chemical, civil, mechanical, electrical engineering, and computational biology, chemistry, and materials science. Papers dealing with novel computational methods to model current and emerging technologies in microelectromechanical systems, electromagnetics, biotechnology, nanotechnology, and information technology are encouraged.Through faster dissemination, the International Journal for Computational Methods in Engineering Science & Mechanics (CMES) offers scope for academics, researchers, and engineering professionals to present their research and development works that have potential for applications in several disciplines of engineering. The journal publishes manuscripts dealing primarily with the computational science and mechanics aspects of natural phenomena (for example, mathematical modeling of materials and systems, novel applications, and numerical simulations). Contributions may range from new methods to novel applications of existing methods to gain understanding of the material and/or structural behavior of new and advanced systems.
