Marine Biology Research is the result of a successful merger of two well respected journals in the field of Marine Biology: Sarsia, North Atlantic Marine Science (published by Taylor & Francis in collaboration with the University of Bergen and the Institute of Marine Research, Norway) and Ophelia, International Journal of Marine Biology (published by Marine Biological Laboratory in collaboration with Freshwater Biological Laboratory, both University of Copenhagen). Sarsia and Ophelia were both established in the 1960's and have both become well respected international journals presenting original research on all aspects of oceanography and marine biology, Sarsia giving particular emphasis to results from Nordic and North Atlantic environments. Marine Biology Research has continued with similar aims and scopes in addition to presenting invited reviews and thematic issues on selected research topics to subscribers in over 40 different countries. Marine Georesources & Geotechnology publishes research applied to the scientific and engineering aspects, and the management and utilization, of seafloor sediments and rocks. Marine and Freshwater Behaviour and Physiology is devoted to the publication of papers on research into the behaviour and physiology of marine and freshwater animals. It covers field and laboratory studies of the behaviour and physiology of aquatic animals including * excretion * osmoregulation * digestion * respiration * feeding * migration * reproduction * tidal and biorhythms * neurobiology * movement * sensory biology * anatomy and fine structure (where embedded in a physiological context) The behaviour of aquatic animals, both natural and simulated in the laboratory, also fall within the ambit of the journal. Materials at High Temperatures publishes peer reviewed contributions relating to high temperature applications in the power, chemical, engine, processing and furnace industries.

The analysis and improvement of performance in complex systems, the adaptation of plants to new demands or conditions, and the design of 'optimal' systems are a few of the challenges confronting engineers and systems scientists today. In many cases solutions to problems in areas such as these may be found through the use of appropriate mathematical models. The dynamic case, whether continuous time, discrete time of discrete-event, deterministic or stochastic, presents special challenges, and derivation of an appropriate solution depends strongly on the proper initial formulation of the goals and constraints. Increasingly this demands an interdisciplinary approach to modelling. Models can take the form of sets of equations, graphs or nets, or some combination of elements such as these. The derivation, combination, simplification and validation of models and sub-models are the main topics of Mathematical and Computer Modelling of Dynamical Systems, which provides an international forum for the presentation of new ideas in modelling and for the exchange of experience and knowledge through descriptions of specific applications.
