Forest Ecology and Management

ISSN: 0378-1127eISSN: 1872-7042
JUFO Level 3

Forest Ecology and Management publishes scientific articles that link forest ecology with forest management, and that apply biological and ecological knowledge to the management and conservation of man-made and natural forests. The scope of the journal includes all forest ecosystems of the world.A refereeing process ensures the quality and international interest of the manuscripts accepted for publication. The journal aims to encourage communication between scientists in disparate fields who share a common interest in ecology and forest management, and to bridge the gap between research workers and forest managers in the field to the benefit of both. The editors encourage submission of papers that will have the strongest interest and value to the Journal's international readership. Some key features of papers with strong interest include:1. Clear connections between the ecology and management of forests;2. Novel ideas or approaches to important challenges in forest ecology and management;3. Studies that address a population of interest beyond the scale of single research sites (see the editorial, Three key points in the design of forest experiments, Forest Ecology and Management 255 (2008) 2022-2023);4. Review Articles on timely, important topics. Authors are encouraged to contact one of the editors to discuss the potential suitability of a review manuscript. We now receive many more submissions than we can publish. Many papers are rejected because they do not fit within the aims and scope detailed above. Some examples include:1. Papers in which the primary focus is, for example, entomology or pathology or soil science or remote sensing, but where the links to, and implications for, forest management are not clear and have not been strongly developed; 2. Model-based investigations that do not include a substantial field-based validation component;3. Local or regional studies of diversity aimed at the development of conservation policies;4. The effects of forestry practices that do not include a strong ecological component (for example, the effects of weed control or fertilizer application on yield);5. Social or economic or policy studies (please consider our sister journal, 'Forest Policy and Economics').LIST OF REVIEWERS 2011Please bookmark this page as: http://www.elsevier.com/locate/forecoFor more information/suggestions/comments please contact AuthorSupport@elsevier.com

Forestry

ISSN: 0015-752XeISSN: 1464-3626
JUFO Level 2

Forestry publishes high quality articles and reviews on all aspects of research, practice and policy that promote the sustainable development of forests, woodlands and trees. In considering suitability for publication attention is given to both the originality of contributions and their practical application. Preference is usually given to work undertaken in the temperate and/or boreal zones; submissions from the tropics will be considered if they are relevant to the aim of the Journal.Special Issues - each year one edition of Forestry will be a Special Issue and will focus on one subject in detail; this will usually be by publication of the proceedings of an international meeting. This Prize is awarded annually to the author(s) of the best paper published in Forestry on the subject of silviculture, as defined below, during the preceding three years. It can also be awarded to an individual or team for a consistently high standard of papers over a period of five to ten years. In making the award preference is given to papers describing the results of original research in silviculture and to original contributions to the theory and practice of silviculture. For purposes of the award 'silviculture' is defined as the theory and practice of controlling the establishment, composition and growth of forests and shall include the relationship of tree growth to environmental and economic factors and the effects on tree growth of other plants, micro-organisms, insects, birds and other animals.

Forests (ISSN 1999-4907) is an international and cross-disciplinary scholarly journal of forestry and forest ecology. It publishes research papers, short communications and review papers. There is no restriction on the length of the papers. Our aim is to encourage scientists to publish their experimental and theoretical research in as much detail as possible. Full experimental and/or methodical details must be provided for research articles. There are, in addition, unique features of this journal: computed data or files regarding the full details of the experimental procedure, if unable to be published in a normal way, can be deposited as supplementary material we also accept manuscripts communicating to a broader audience with regard to research projects financed with public funds manuscripts regarding research proposals and research ideas are welcomed

DOAJ Logo
JUFO Level 2

First to know the nature of bioenergy GCB Bioenergy exists to promote understanding of the interface between biological sciences and the production of fuels directly from plants, algae and waste. All aspects of current and potential biofuel production, from forestry, crop production, enzymatic deconstruction and microbial fuel synthesis to implications for biodiversity, ecosystem services, economics, policy and global change will be included. Articles from outside this area of interest to a biology readership are policy forum (covering legislative developments affecting biofuels), socioeconomic analyses (examining the economic viability or social acceptability of crops, crops systems and their processing, including genetically modified organisms [GMOs]), and systems analysis (examining biological developments in a whole systems context). Comparative studies of biomass projects and their mitigating effects will be important to the journal, as will plant/microbe interactions (i.e. maximizing yield while reducing/limiting nitrogen input) and genome research.

International Journal of Forest Engineering

ISSN: 1494-2119
JUFO Level 1

The International Journal of Forest Engineering (IJFE) is dedicated to the dissemination of scholarly writings in all aspects of forest operations, both empirical and theoretical. Most published articles are original research, but review articles are also welcome.

An important role of the IJFE is to report on existing practices and innovations in forest operations by scientists and professionals from around the world to promote environmentally sound forestry practices and contribute to sustainable forest management.

The scope applies to all kinds of forest management (e.g. short and long rotation; uneven-aged and even-aged) and all uses of the forest biomass (e.g. lumber, pulp and paper, energy and other uses). The journal will include articles related to production and supply of forest biomass to industry or other users, but excludes typically the industrial manufacturing processes (e.g. sawmilling and combustion).

Examples of topics typically covered by the IJFE are:
  • tree harvesting, processing and transportation
  • stand establishment, protection and tending
  • operations planning, management and control
  • machine design, management and evaluation
  • forest access planning and construction
  • human factors engineering
  • education and training

Due to the booming interest in using forest biomass for energy purposes, the IJFE especially welcomes papers addressing such issues.

All submitted manuscripts are subject to initial appraisal by the Editor, and, if found suitable for further consideration, to peer review by independent, anonymous expert referees. All peer review is double blind and submission is online via Editorial Manager.
