Advances in Water Resources

ISSN: 0309-1708
JUFO Level 2

Advances in Water Resources provides a forum for the presentation of fundamental scientific advances in the understanding of water resources systems. The scope of Advances in Water Resources includes any combination of theoretical, computational, or experimental approaches used to advance fundamental understanding of surface or subsurface water resources systems or the interaction between these systems. Manuscripts involving applications or design, but not advancing fundamental understanding, are not appropriate for Advances in Water Resources.Examples of appropriate topical areas that will be considered include the following:• Surface and subsurface hydrology• Hydrodynamics and hydrometeorology• Multiphase transport phenomena• Modeling fluid flow and species transport and reaction processes• Mathematical and stochastic analysis of water resources systemsAdvances in Water Resources will be also be accepting Letters which are rapid communications providing short reports of significant fundamental research in all fields of hydrology. Contributions submitted as Letters should be not only fundamental and novel but also potentially transformative in impact by providing new observations, theories, or findings deserving of expedited review and publication. If a submission is deemed acceptable for consideration as a Letter contribution by the Editors, it will be reviewed by Editorial Advisory Board members for technical merits, impact, and broadness, with a review response expected to be within 15 days. Authors will be requested to respond to reviews within 10 days. Agricultural Water Management

ISSN: 0378-3774
JUFO Level 1

The journal publishes papers of international significance relating to the science, economics, and policy of agricultural water management. In all cases, manuscripts must address implications and provide insight regarding agricultural water management. The primary topics that we consider are the following:• Farm-level and regional water management• Crop water relations, crop yields and water productivity • Irrigation, drainage, and salinity in cultivated areas• Salinity management and strategies for improving the use of saline water in agriculture• Rainwater harvesting and crop water management in rainfed areas• Use of wastewater and other low quality waters in agriculture • Groundwater management in agriculture and conjunctive use of groundwater and surface water• Implications of groundwater and surface water management on nutrient cycling• Exploitation and protection of agricultural water resources.Additional topics of interest include interactions between agricultural water management and the environment (flooding, soil erosion, nutrient loss and depletion, non-point source pollution, water quality, desertification, and the potential implications of global climate change for agricultural water management), and the institutional and regulatory aspects of agricultural water management (water pricing, allocation and competition).Papers in these categories must draw direct and practical linkages to agricultural water management. Manuscripts drawing generalised conclusions, such as that competition for water will increase in future, or that less water will be available for agriculture, are unlikely to be considered. Also, manuscripts describing basic soil-water-plant relationships, basic engineering and hydrology, or methods of estimating evapotranspiration will be considered only if the discussion is relevant to the active management of water in agriculture and the information enhances international literature.

Aquatic Biosystems is an open access, peer-reviewed, online journal considering high quality manuscripts on all aspects of basic and applied research on aquatic organisms and environments. The scope of Aquatic Biosystems ranges from the molecular and organism levels to global systems and processes. The journal encourages reports on a wide array of environments, including lakes, rivers, marshes, springs, lagoons, solar pans, estuaries, and the open ocean, and their micro- and macro-flora and fauna. The focus is on the relationships between the environment and biological systems, encompassing microbial genomics, physiology, and ecology, biogeochemical cycling, food webs, paleolimnology, biodiversity, conservation, resource management, and ecosystem structure and function. Engineered biosystems, such as for aquaculture, renewable resource, biofuels, biotechnology, and biomedical production, as well as constructed wetlands, are within the scope of Aquatic Biosystems. The goal of the journal is to bridge across freshwater and saline systems, between basic and applied research, and from gene systems to ecosystems. The online format of the journal is designed to accelerate the process of disseminating important research results and information, in order to better meet the needs and demands of the highly dynamic and global science, management, and private sectors.

Australasian Journal of Water Resource

ISSN: 1324-1583eISSN: 2204-227X

The Australian Journal of Water Resources (AJWR) aims to support innovative water resources planning and management and the advancement of related professional practice in Australia and its surrounding region by publishing fully refereed technical papers and a range of articles of interest to the profession. All papers to be published in the journal must be of relevance to water resources planning/management and related professional practice.

Papers submitted for publication in AJWR are first subjected to an initial review by the Editorial Panel and, if they pass this successfully, will be submitted for independent peer review by at least two reviewers with relevant expertise.

While it is difficult to clearly define a boundary around the topics covered by the intended scope of AJWR, the Editorial Panel will generally reject a paper if:

  • the topic of water resources plays only a very marginal role in the paper
  • the paper deals with such a highly specialised area of application and is of such a highly theoretical nature that it would be of interest to only a very small number of readers
  • the paper deals with a topic which is more appropriately covered by another Australian journal.

Relevance to target region

The primary target area of AJWR is Australia and its surrounding region, and papers to be published in AJWR should be of direct relevance to this target region. A paper that clearly focuses on issues and applications in countries outside this region will only be accepted for publication if it:

  • deals with the issues in a generic fashion and contains significant innovative aspects, thus making the material of the paper relevant to the target region
  • draws clear links to important issues or applications in the target region.

Innovative element

All papers must have an innovative element, either in terms of new scientific knowledge, new methods/models/data sources or novel ways of applying established methods. The presence and significance of an innovative element may be difficult to assess in the initial review - unless the lack of an innovative element can be clearly established, the paper will go on to detailed review.

Category of Publication

The AJWR Editorial Policy distinguishes between the following categories of publications:

Fully refereed papers (preferred)

  • Formal Professional and Scientific Papers – reporting on research, development of new methods or innovative applications of existing methods
  • Review Papers – on topics of significant current interest
  • Technical Notes – providing practical guidance on application

Other articles and communications (occasional)

  • Conference Papers – reprinted keynote papers or orations from Engineers Australia sponsored conferences
  • Position Papers – prepared by the National Committee on Water Engineering
  • Discussion Papers – exposing issues for feedback by the profession
  • Practice Notes – updates to current guidelines (after completed peer review)
  • Discussions of published papers
  • Occasional Communications – notices of general interest to the profession.
