The journal reports significant new findings related to the formation, fabrication, textures, structures, properties, performances, and technological applications of materials and their devices for energy storage such as Thermal, Electrochemical, Chemical, Electrical, magnetic, and Mechanical Energy Storage.
These materials can be either inorganic (metallic or non-metallic) materials, organic materials, or their hybrids/ composites.

Energy Storage Materials publishes comprehensive research articles, topical feature articles and invited reviews by leading experts in the field. Papers will be selected that have high scientific and technological merit, impart important new knowledge, and are of high interest to the international community of energy storage materials and devices. Energy use and supply is of fundamental importance to society and, with the possible exception of agriculture and forestry, has made the greatest impact on the environment of any human activity - a result of the large scale and pervasive nature of energy related activities. Although energy and environment concerns were originally local in character - for example, problems associated with extraction, transport or noxious emissions - they have now widened to cover regional and global issues such as acid rain and the greenhouse effect. Such problems have now become major political issues and the subject of international debate and regulation. It is for this reason that there is a need for a journal dedicated to energy and environment issues. Energy and Environment is an interdisciplinary journal aimed at natural scientists, technologists and the international social science and policy communities covering the direct and indirect environmental impacts of energy acquisition, transport, production and use. A particular objective is to cover the social, economic and political dimensions of such issues at local, national and international level. The technological and scientific aspects of energy and environment questions including energy conservation, and the interaction of energy forms and systems with the physical environment, are covered, including the relationship of such questions to wider economic and socio-political issues. Papers covering energy related aspects of wider environmental questions are included, such as the use of fuel wood and continuing impacts of de-forestation. A major aim of Energy and Environment is to act as a forum for constructive and professional debate between scientists and technologists, social scientists and economists from academia, government and the energy industries on energy and environment issues in both a national and international context. It is also the aim to include the informed and environmentally concerned public and their organisations in the debate. Particular attention is given to ways of resolving conflict in the energy and environment field.

The submissions on catalysis (including bio-, photo- and electro-catalysis) must focus on new insights for energy conversion and not solely on catalyst characterization. Manuscripts on analytical and instrumental techniques used in investigations of the foregoing areas are also welcome. The analysis of the physical and chemical properties of raw fuels and refined products by novel methods is within the scope. Submitted manuscripts are expected to contain new fundamental knowledge and/or present advances in technologies. Manuscripts on process development, integration and modelling are welcome if they include sound physical-chemical fundamentals. Submissions dealing with nuclear, wind and hydraulic power, power grids, or solely with process economics will not be considered.
