Food and Bioproducts Processing

ISSN: 0960-3085eISSN: 1744-3571
JUFO Level 1

FBP aims to be the principal international journal for publication of high quality, original papers in the branches of engineering and science dedicated to the safe processing of biological products. It is the only journal to exploit the synergy between biotechnology, bioprocessing and food engineering.Papers showing how research results can be used in engineering design, and accounts of experimental or theoretical research work bringing new perspectives to established principles, highlighting unsolved problems or indicating directions for future research, are particularly welcome. Contributions that deal with new developments in equipment or processes and that can be given quantitative expression are encouraged. The journal is especially interested in papers that extend the boundaries of food and bioproducts processing. The journal has a strong emphasis on the interface between engineering and food or bioproducts. Papers that are not likely to be published are those:• Primarily concerned with food formulation• That use experimental design techniques to obtain response surfaces but gain little insight from them• That are empirical and ignore established mechanistic models, e.g., empirical drying curves• That are primarily concerned about sensory evaluation and colour• Concern the extraction and/or antioxidant activity of a specific biological material without providing insight that could be applied to a similar but different material,• Containing only chemical analyses of biological materials. The journal publishes regular special issues focusing on specific topicsCore topic areas:Biotechnology and bioprocessing• Biocatalysis and biotransformations • Bioprocess modelling and optimisation • Bioseparation • Fermentation and cell culture • Bioreactor design, instrumentation and control • Microbial physiology and engineering metabolic • Production formulation • Sterile processing • Systems biology and biological engineering • NanobiotechnologyFood and drink process engineering• Engineering for food safety • Environmental issues in food manufacture • Minimal processing techniques • Packaging • Plant, process and product design • Processing and microstructure interactions • Unit operations, process modelling and optimisation in food engineeringHygienic manufacture and product safety• Fouling and cleaning • Good manufacturing practice • Hazard analysis • Heating and cooling methods, including freezing, pasteurisation and thermal sterilisation • Hygienic design • Non-thermal processes • Process analytical technology (PAT) • Regulation and validation.

Food and Foodways

ISSN: 0740-9710eISSN: 1542-3484
JUFO Level 1

Food and Foodways is a refereed, interdisciplinary, and international journal devoted to publishing original scholarly articles on the history and culture of human nourishment. By reflecting on the role food plays in human relations, this unique journal explores the powerful but often subtle ways in which food has shaped, and shapes, our lives socially, economically, politically, mentally, nutritionally, and morally. Because food is a pervasive social phenomenon, it cannot be approached by any one discipline. We encourage articles that engage dialogue, debate, and exchange across disciplines. Food and Foodways publishes work by anthropologists, biologists, economists, ethnobotanists, historians, literary critics, nutritionists, psychologists, sociologists, and others who use food as a lens of analysis. We also seek review essays or short topical pieces that are provocative and problematic in nature.Peer Review Policy:All research articles in this journal have undergone rigorous peer review, based on initial editor screening and anonymous refereeing by three anonymous referees.Publication office: Taylor & Francis, Inc., 325 Chestnut Street, Suite 800, Philadelphia, PA 19106.

Food and Function

eISSN: 2042-650X
JUFO Level 1

Food & Function provides a unique venue for physicists, chemists, biochemists, nutritionists and other food scientists to publish novel, cutting-edge, original research focussing on food, its nutrients and their relation to human health and nutrition.
We welcome research describing the:
  • Physical properties and structure of food and how this relates to sensory perception and human health
  • Biochemical and physiological actions of food components
  • Interactions between foods, gut microbiota and human physiology
  • Nutritional and biological evaluation of food
  • Clinical and population studies using food or food components
  • Development of biomarkers of food intake and effects on human health
  • We also welcome systematic reviews and meta-analyses of existing studies in the literature, provided these are objective and scientifically valid
Food in this context is defined as materials of plant, animal or mineral origin, which are consumed orally (by humans) for pleasure and to sustain growth and vital processes.

Examples of research topics that are of interest to be published in Food & Function are:
  • Chemistry and physics of food components and digestion processes
  • Relationship between the physical properties/structure of food and nutrition and human health - for example, impact of food matrix or processing on nutrient release and uptake
  • Molecular properties and physiological effects of food components (nutrients, fibres, essential micronutrients, phytochemicals, bioactives, food substitutes, novel ingredients, allergens, flavours and fragrances)
  • Nutritional and health effects of food including bioavailability and metabolism assessment of food components (nutrients, micronutrients and other microconstituents)

Food and Waterborne Parasitology

eISSN: 2405-6766
DOAJ Logo
JUFO Level 1
Food and Waterborne Parasitology publishes high quality papers containing original research findings, investigative reports, and scientific proceedings on parasites which are transmitted to humans via the consumption of food or water.

The relevant parasites include protozoa, nematodes, cestodes and trematodes which are transmitted by food or water and capable of infecting humans. Pertinent food includes products of animal or plant origin which are domestic or wild, and consumed by humans. Animals and plants from both terrestrial and aquatic sources are included, as well as studies related to potable and other types of water which serve to harbor, perpetuate or disseminate food and waterborne parasites.

Studies dealing with prevalence, transmission, epidemiology, risk assessment and mitigation, including control measures and test methodologies for parasites in food and water are of particular interest.

Evidence of the emergence of such parasites and interactions among domestic animals, wildlife and humans are of interest. The impact of parasites on the health and welfare of humans is viewed as very important and within scope of the journal. Manuscripts with scientifically generated information on associations between food and waterborne parasitic diseases and lifestyle, culture and economies are also welcome. Studies involving animal experiments must meet the International Guiding Principles for Biomedical Research Involving Animals as issued by the Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences.

The primary form of publication in the journal is a full-length paper describing scientifically-sound original research studies. Less than full-length publications include Brief Communications of original research findings, and Investigative Reports describing studies of unique single cases or widespread outbreaks. Review articles on specific high profile topics, emerging or strategic issues may be solicited for publication, but requests for such submissions may also be made. Topical review articles based on keynote presentations at conferences or workshops will be considered.
