The name APL Photonics is about values and community. “APL” stands for the values we share with our parent (Applied Physics Letters) and sister (APL Materials) journals - promoting significant advances and novel understandings in our fields through research reports that are driven forward by peer-review. As a new, open access journal for the photonics community, APL Photonics expands on these values and is the home for fundamental and applied multidisciplinary research anchored in photonics, and the platform for next-generation innovations in the field.

Applied Physics Letters, published by the American Institute of Physics, features concise, up-to-date reports on significant new findings in applied physics. Emphasizing rapid dissemination of key data and new physical insights, Applied Physics Letters offers prompt publication of new experimental and theoretical papers bearing on applications of physics phenomena to all branches of science, engineering, and modern technology. Content is published online daily, collected into weekly online and printed issues (52 issues per year).

iomicrofluidics is an online currently free access journal published by the American Institute of Physics to rapidly disseminate research in elucidating fundamental physicochemical mechanisms associated with microfluidic and nanofluidic phenomena as well as novel microfluidic and nanofluidic techniques for diagnostic, medical, biological, pharmaceutical, environmental, and chemical applications.

chaos is a quarterly journal published by the American Institute of Physics and devoted to increasing the understanding of nonlinear phenomena and describing the manifestations in a manner comprehensible to researchers from a broad spectrum of disciplines.

The computational and data-centric problems faced by scientists and engineers transcend disciplines. There is a need to share knowledge of algorithms, software, and architectures, and to transmit lessons-learned to a broad scientific audience. Computing in Science & Engineering (CiSE) is a cross-disciplinary, international publication that meets this need by presenting contributions of high interest and educational value from a variety of fields, including—but not limited to—physics, biology, chemistry, and astronomy. CiSE emphasizes innovative applications in advanced computing, simulation, and analytics, among other cutting-edge techniques. CiSE publishes peer-reviewed research articles, and also runs departments spanning news and analyses, topical reviews, tutorials, case studies, and more.

Journal of Applied Physics is the American Institute of Physics' (AIP) archival journal for significant new results in applied physics; content is published online daily, collected into two online and printed issues per month (24 issues per year). The journal publishes articles that emphasize understanding of the physics underlying modern technology, but distinguished from technology on the one side and pure physics on the other. Applied Physics Reviews is a series of occasional review articles on topics within this scope. The Proceedings of the Conference on Magnetism and Magnetic Materials is an annual feature.

Its purpose is the publication of papers in mathematical physics–that is, the application of mathematics to problems in physics and the development of mathematical methods suitable for such applications and for the formulation of physical theories. The mathematics should be written in a manner that is understandable to theoretical physicists. Occasionally, reviews of mathematical subjects relevant to physics and special issues combining papers on a topic of current interest may be published.

Journal of Physical and Chemical Reference Data is published by the American Institute of Physics (AIP) for the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST); content is published online daily, collected into quarterly online and printed issues (4 issues per year). The objective of the Journal is to provide critically evaluated physical and chemical property data, fully documented as to the original sources and the criteria used for evaluation, preferably with uncertainty analysis. Critical reviews of measurement techniques may also be included if they shed light on the accuracy of available data in a technical area. Papers reporting correlations of data or estimation methods are acceptable only if they are based on critical data evaluation and if they produce “reference data”—the best available values for the relevant properties. The journal is not intended as a publication outlet for original experimental measurements such as those normally reported in the primary research literature, nor for review articles of a descriptive or primarily theoretical nature. One source of contributions to the Journal is The National Standard Reference Data System (NSRDS), which was established in 1963 as a means of coordinating on a national scale the production and dissemination of critically evaluated reference data in the physical sciences. Under the Standard Reference Data Act (Public Law 90-396) the National Institute of Standards and Technology of the U.S. Department of Commerce has the primary responsibility in the Federal Government for providing reliable scientific and technical reference data. The Standard Reference Data Program of NIST coordinates a complex of data evaluation centers, located in university, industrial, and other Government laboratories as well as within NIST, which are engaged in the compilation and critical evaluation of numerical data on physical and chemical properties retrieved from the world scientific literature. The participants in this NIST-sponsored program, together with similar groups under private or other Government support which are pursuing the same ends, compose the National Standard Reference Data System. The primary focus of the NSRDS is on well-defined physical and chemical properties of well-characterized materials or systems. An effort is made to assess the accuracy of data reported in the primary research literature and to prepare compilations of critically evaluated data which will serve as reliable and convenient reference sources for the scientific and technical community.

JRSE, published by the American Institute of Physics, is an interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed journal covering all areas of renewable and sustainable energy-related fields that apply to the physical science and engineering communities. Content is published online daily, collected into bimonthly issues (6 times a year). As an electronic-only, web-based journal with rapid publication time, JRSE is responsive to the many new developments expected in this field.
