In treating DSS topics, manuscripts may delve into, draw-on, or expand such diverse areas as artificial intelligence, cognitive science, computer supported cooperative work, data base management, decision theory, economics, linguistics, management science, mathematical modeling, operations management psychology, user interface management systems, and others. The common thread of articles published in the journal will be their relevance to theoretical, technical DSS issues.Authors planning to submit papers to the journal should ensure that their work is relevant to the topics normally considered to be part of the field of decision support systems. The Journal's research papers tend to fall into the following six topic departments:1. DSS Foundations e.g. DSS principles, concepts, and theories; frameworks, formal languages, and methods for DSS research; tutorials about the nature of DSS; assessments of the DSS field.2. DSS Development-Functionality e.g. methods, tools, and techniques for developing the underlying functional aspects of a DSS; solver/model management; data management in DSSs; rule management and AI in DSSs; coordinating a DSS's functionality within its user interface.3. DSS Development-Interfaces e.g. methods, tools, and techniques for developing the overt user interface of a DSS; managing linguistic, presentation, and user knowledge in a DSS; DSS help facilities; coordinating a DSS's interface events with its functionality events.4. DSS Impacts and Evaluation e.g. DSS economics; DSS measurement; DSS impacts on individual users, multiparticipant users, organizations, and societies; evaluating/justifying DSSs.5. DSS Reference Studies e.g. reference discipline tutorials for DSS researchers; emerging technologies relevant to DSS characteristics or DSS development; related studies on such topics as communication support systems, computer supported cooperative work, negotiation support systems, research support systems, task support systems.6. Information Systems Research

ISSN: 1047-7047eISSN: 1526-5536
JUFO Level 3

Alarge body of research in economics, information systems, and marketing has sought to understand sources of price dispersion. Previous empirical work has mainly offered consumer- and/or product-based explanations for this phenomenon. In contrast, our research explores the key role played by vendors' price-format adoption in explaining price dispersion. We empirically analyze over a half-million online and offline prices offered by major U.S. airlines in the top 500 domestic markets. Our study shows that a vendor's price format remains an important source of price dispersion in both channels even after accounting for other factors known to impact dispersion in airline ticket prices. Importantly, this finding is true for both transacted and posted tickets. We document several other interesting empirical findings. First, the lower variance in the prices of "everyday low price" (EDLP) firms serves to reduce the market-level dispersion in prices when such firms are present. Moreover, the price variance of non-EDLP firms in these markets is also lower than in those markets in which EDLP competitors are absent. Second, we also find that dispersion in offered prices increases closer to the departure date, which is consistent with theoretical assertion that price dispersion increases with reservation prices. Finally, we continue to observe dispersion of online prices even after accounting for vendor strategy and other known sources of dispersion, suggesting that the prices are unlikely to converge even in the presence of sophisticated online search mechanisms.

Information and Organization

ISSN: 1471-7727eISSN: 1873-7919
JUFO Level 3

Advances in information and communication technologies are associated with a wide and increasing range of social consequences, which are experienced by individuals, work groups, organizations, interorganizational networks, and societies at large. Information technologies are implicated in all industries and in public as well as private enterprises. Understanding the relationships between information technologies and social organization is an increasingly important and urgent social and scholarly concern in many disciplinary fields.Information and Organization seeks to publish original scholarly articles on the relationships between information technologies and social organization. It seeks a scholarly understanding that is based on empirical research and relevant theory. Information and Organization also seeks to advance established and emerging theoretical arguments through the publication of papers that review empirical research and provide directions for future research and theory development. Essays that provoke critical thinking on important subjects are also sought. The aim is to provide a forum that brings together innovative, reflective, and rigorous scholarship.Of special interest are contributions on the social construction of information technologies, the implications of information technologies for organizational change, alternative organizational designs such as virtual and networked organizations, information system development, organizational governance and control, accounting systems, globalization, decision processes, organizational learning, ethics of information, organizational communication and organizational culture. A rich variety of disciplines provide valuable perspectives on these topics, and the journal seeks contributions from fields such as information systems, organization science, philosophy, history, psychology, anthropology, political science, sociology, computer science, communication, and others.Interest is not restricted to any particular technology for processing or transmitting information. Indeed, new technologies emerge continuously, and the journal seeks to provide a useful forum for discussion about emerging technologies and their social and organizational consequences. Interest is also not restricted to any specific theoretical or disciplinary position. The journal invites a broad spectrum of contemporary and historical scholarship, including theoretical, empirical, analytical and interpretive studies, as well as critical theory and action research. In 2002, Elsevier launched Library Connect, a new initiative bringing together many of Elsevier's library-focused efforts.
