Language and Cognitive Processes provides an international forum for the publication of theoretical and experimental research into the mental processes and representations involved in language use. The psychological study of language has attracted increasing research interest over the past three decades, and Language and Cognitive Processes provides a common focus for this enterprise. The journal is also interested in fostering the relationship between cognitive theoretical accounts of language and its neural bases. From 2009, a Special Section of each volume is devoted to the Cognitive Neuroscience of Language to highlight the strong interest in the growing influence of cognitive neuroscience methodologies.The journal emphasises the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to the study of language. Apart from research in experimental and developmental psychology, Language and Cognitive Processes publishes work derived from linguistics, philosophy, cognitive neuropsychology, cognitive neuroscience and computational modelling. Contributions are accepted in the form of experimental and observational studies, theoretical discussions, short notes and replies, and review articles. Research papers must clearly explain the theoretical background, hypotheses to be tested and the theoretical interpretation of the results. These points should be reflected in the abstract and in the main paper. We are unlikely to review papers where the theoretical issues are not clearly laid out.Articles in Language and Cognitive Processes and Cognitive Neuroscience of Language are published online immediately after acceptance and final correction.Cognitive Neuroscience of Language Special SectionLanguage and Cognitive Processes now publishes a special section devoted to the Cognitive Neuroscience of Language. The development of cognitive neuroscience methodologies has significantly broadened the empirical scope of experimental language studies. Both hemodynamic imaging and electrophysiological approaches provide new perspectives on the representation and processing of language, and add important constraints on the development of theoretical accounts of language function.In light of the strong interest in and growing influence of these new tools Language and Cognitive Processes publishes a Special Section on the Cognitive Neuroscience of Language. All types of articles will be considered, including reviews, whose submission is encouraged. Submissions should exemplify the subject in its most straightforward sense: linking good cognitive science and good neuroscience to answer key questions about the nature of language and cognition.We are happy to entertain papers that use any approach to investigate the cognitive neuroscience of language. Importantly, the paper should address a neurobiological issue as well as a cognitive one, or integrate the two approaches, or provide some evidence that the neurobiology of language is being studied. For example, ERP papers that are strictly focused on psycholinguistic questions and use ERP as a metric without also posing a neurobiological question will only be considered for LCP proper, rather than the CNL. By applying a variety of perspectives to their investigations, contributors provide a broad spectrum of unique and thought-provoking articles - theoretical essays, original empirical research, and literature and book reviews. Its international editorial board is composed of scholars and experts in linguistics, education, artificial intelligence, sociology, anthropology, philosophy, and psychology. This journal appeals to the broad range of scholars and researchers in the field of metaphor. INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS Contributors should send three copies of their manuscripts to: Raymond W. Gibbs, Jr., Editor, Metaphor and Symbol, Department of Psychology, University of California-Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz, CA, 95064. Manuscripts should be prepared according to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, Fifth Edition. All manuscript copy should be double-spaced. The cover letter should include a complete mailing address for each author and the telephone number and E-mail address of the author to whom editorial correspondence is to be addressed. Figures should be in camera-ready condition. Contributors are responsible for all statements made in their work and for obtaining permission from copyright owners if they use an illustration, table, or lengthy quote (over 500 words) published elsewhere. Contributors should write to both publisher and author of such material, requesting nonexclusive world rights in all languages for use in the article and all future editions of it. Manuscripts will be evaluated on the basis of style as well as content. After a manuscript is accepted for publication, authors are asked to provide a computer disk containing the word processing file of the manuscript. Some minor copyediting may be done, but authors must take responsibility for clarity, conciseness, and felicity of expression. In order to set off printed figurative text from nonfigurative use of (a) italicization (underlining in manuscripts) for indicating emphasis, (b) quotation marks for indicating quotations, and (c) capitalization for indicating headings and subheadings, authors should abide by the following conventions: Any sentence or phrase in which a word or words are intended as figurative should be set in quoted lower-case italics (e.g., 'My soul is an enchanted boat,' 'to let the cat out of the bag,' etc.). What are called metaphor themes or metaphor formulas should be set in quoted upper-case italics (e.g., 'LIFE IS A JOURNEY,' 'LOVE IS INSANITY,' etc.), with italicization indicated by underlining in the manuscripts. Subordinate instances of these two sample themes should be set in quoted lower-case italics ('Our relationship has come a long way' and 'He was madly in love with her,' respectively). Content: Military Psychology is the quarterly journal of Division 19 (Society for Military Psychology) of the American Psychological Association. The journal seeks to facilitate the scientific development of military psychology by encouraging communication between researchers and practitioners. The domain of military psychology is the conduct of research or practice of psychological principles within a military environment. The journal publishes behavioral science research articles having military applications in the areas of clinical and health psychology, training and human factors, manpower and personnel, social and organizational systems, and testing and measurement. Topics of major concern to military psychology will be covered in special journal issues. Military Psychology is international in scope, and the editors encourage submission of articles that address research being carried out in a variety of national settings. Contributions will be considered for publication in the following categories: Research Articles: Reports of empirical research. Notes: Brief articles describing work that is largely confirmatory, advances in knowledge arising as by-products of broader studies, or new research techniques and methodologies. Reviews: Scholarly integrations of individual areas of empirical research. Communications: Information on policies and trends that affect the support and direction of research in military psychology. Peer Review Policy: Once a manuscript is processed it is assigned a manuscript control number and given to an Action Editor (one of the Associate Editors) for editorial oversight. The Action Editor will oversee the review process, obtain review from two subject matter experts, compile reviewer comments and prepare an editorial recommendation for the manuscript. It is the official journal of the Italian-based Rosselli Foundation. Neuropsychologia is an international interdisciplinary journal devoted to experimental and theoretical contributions that advance understanding of human cognition and behavior from a neuroscience perspective. The journal will consider for publication studies that link brain function with cognitive processes, including attention and awareness, action and motor control, executive functions and cognitive control, memory, language, and emotion and social cognition.Neuropsychologia has a long history of publishing lesion-deficit studies, and these remain highly appropriate for the journal. Submission of papers describing the use of other methodologies – most notably functional and structural neuroimaging, cognitive electrophysiology, and transcranial magnetic stimulation - is strongly encouraged, however. Animal studies are also welcome, provided they have a direct and explicitly specified impact on understanding human cognition and behavior.
